SMOKE POTS – A HIDDEN GEM REVEALED AFTER 70 YEARS
We had anecdotal evidence from a number of sources about the smoke pots that guarded the dams.
We could not find any pictures or records or people who had actual ever seen them. It was a piece of lost history.
On Friday 9th May 2014 as part of our research we visited the National Archives in Richmond, London. Hidden in one file was an amazing find that provided us with the diagrams of the smoke pots designs annotated with charming drawings of rabbits on the dam side. There was also a report that related to a test held locally at one of our dams with black and white pictures taken at the time by one of the reviewing team.
We were very excited to find this little gem that shows unequivocally that the smoke pots were deployed as we thought. Not seen for over 70 years now you can share in this piece of rediscovered history.
